CMS Updates ABN Form for Medicare Services

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently updated the Advance Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage (ABN), Form CMS-R-131, which is issued by SNF and other providers submitting claims for Medicare items and services to beneficiaries in situations where Medicare payment is expected to be denied.

CMS Announces Plans to End the Blanket Waiver Requiring Nursing Homes to Submit Staffing Data

On June 25th, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced plans to end the emergency blanket waiver requiring all nursing homes to resume submitting staffing data through the Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ) system by August 14, 2020.

MassHealth NF Census for July 1 – New Filing Process through UMASS

MassHealth announced via an email to Nursing Home Administrators that it will be conducting its mandatory quarterly Nursing Facility Occupancy Survey for the July 1 census date. In the email, MassHealth indicated that the census survey will now be conducted on behalf of MassHealth by the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

EOHHS Announces Long Term EOHHS Announces Long Term Care Facility Surveillance Testing Program – Supplemental Funding to Cover Testing Costs

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health released a memo specifying a surveillance testing strategy for all long-term care settings, including nursing homes, rest homes, and assisted living residences. Long term care providers should conduct new baseline testing of staff who previously tested negative no later than July 19, 2020, and adopt a surveillance testing program using this regimen.

The Massachusetts House of Representatives yesterday engrossed a FY 2020 supplemental budget that included an amendment sponsored by Chairman Tom Golden, Jr. (D-Lowell) that would establish a state-funded, adaptive nursing facility surveillance testing program in the Commonwealth.

Deadline Tomorrow: Sign the Nursing Home Ballot Initiative Petition

Nursing facilities are facing an unprecedented workforce and financial crisis that is being exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Mass Senior Care Board of Directors voted in February 2020 to support the Nursing Home Ballot Initiative which would allow voters to create a permanent and critical law requiring the state to adequately fund and support nursing home care.

Mass Senior Care Cancels June 16th Spring Conference & Trade Show

Due to the current restrictions on public gatherings related to the COVID-19 public health crisis, Mass Senior Care Association is cancelling our Spring Conference & Trade Show scheduled for June 16th at the DCU Center in Worcester. Our first priority is to help maintain the health and safety of our staff and residents and we all look forward to the day when we can gather together to shake a hand, give a hug and connect with colleagues live and in person!

Nursing facilities are facing an unprecedented workforce and financial crisis that is being exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Mass Senior Care Board of Directors voted in February 2020 to support the Nursing Home Ballot Initiative which would allow voters to create a permanent and critical law requiring the state to adequately fund and support nursing home care.
