  • DPH Issues Guidance on Harm Reduction and the Protection of Caregivers
October 2, 2024

DPH has issued new guidance to provide recommendations and resources to support the integration of harm reduction services in healthcare settings to people who use drugs (PWUD). Under this guidance, if a healthcare worker provides harm reduction services and supplies to PWUD, the worker will not be disciplined by the various state licensing boards. The memo states that “it is the position of the Department of Public Health that no licensed healthcare professional should be subject to professional disciplinary action.” The memo details what sort of harm reduction supplies and services can and should be provided to PWUD and lists resources for healthcare providers related to these supplies and supports.
